These earrings come from parts of Dracaena Draco leaves which come from the same named tree. These trees are common in Southern and Central coastal areas of California. Depending on the size of the tree the whole leaves can be from 12" to 36" long. The part of the leaf that I use is actually the end of the leaf that is attached to the tree trunk. I have made baskets from these leaves for years as they are very fibrous and strong. Periodically I would find the long part to be damaged and not usuable but the pretty orange end would still be in good shape. It seemed like such a shame to not be able to use it so I came up with the idea of making earrings with them.
